2000 to 2004 General Comments
Although a few gouache works are completed in 2000, most notably the
award-winning "The Drift"... almost all other work is executed in acrylic on
both masonite and canvas. Gouache and watercolors cannot withstand the endless
color layering nor are they suitable for the larger formats that dominate this
period.
Some, like the visually impactful "Young Girls in the Canyon"
are quite realistic yet have significant impressionist qualities. Others, like
"Ochre" and "Yellow" both from the artistically superb 2002 Color Series, are
almost entirely impressionist in style.
Although the subject of styles
is for critics to decide, the fact is that... two very distinct artistic
approaches now solidly exist side-by-side... as the latest works from 2005 like
the two "Z-paintings" clearly demonstrate. |
