a Retrospective of the
Tenth Anniversary Book |

No book or career
is possible without the goodwill, assistance and generous guidance of a
very large cast of people .... I consider John Zolomij my artworld 'mentor'
whose opinions and knowledge I hold with great regard and respect. I can't
think of a single person more qualified or whom I would rather have working as
editor of this book. His dedication and gracious good humor is gratefully
acknowledged.
Bob and Carol Paglione are long-standing clients but more
importantly I'm privileged to call them friends. We met at an art
exhibition and over the years our professional interests have framed and then
given way to friendship.
John Barnes has forgotten more about Ferrari's
than I can ever hope to know. 'Cavallino' has set the standard for Ferrari
magazines and his concise commentary has earned him a large and well
deserved following.
Meadow Brook has become one of the largest and most
respected concours events in the United States. The 'Art Exhibition' is a must
on any automotive artist's schedule. Jack Schwartz's organizational skills and
dedication have made the sometimes difficult task of show participation a
rewarding and enjoyable experience.
When editor John Zolomij suggested
that commentary by another artist would be appropriate and enrich the book, one
name immediately came to my mind. Stanley Wanlass is that rare artist whose
command of his art is overwhelming and his ability to articulate his views
unparalleled. He is still, from my point of view, the 'sculptor' who has done
the best Meadow Brook 'painting". I can only hope to aspire to his standards.
My uncle Frank Koka is a brilliant painter whose work is unfortunately
not well known to a North American audience. While I will never match his
talent, his influence, perhaps unknown to him, is invaluable and it is
gratefully acknowlegded.
Cathy, my wife of over 22 years has put up
with a lifetime of living with the eccentricities of an ego-centric artist.
What words could possibly express my love and gratitude. My children Michael
and James are a bright spot in a sometimes clouded future. They pay for each
painting with an often less than attentive father but they should know
they will live in my heart much longer than my work.
And finally, I
must acknowledge my patrons, the many, many collectors of my paintings
and prints. They share my enthusiasm and passion and they allow me to do my
work. In the end, without this audience, there is nothing. To you all. .. thank
you.
