Jay Koka: "The
portico at the Paris Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas is perhaps its most
impressive feature. During the day, the milky panels diffuse the harsh, bright
desert light and in the evening, it's lit up in typical Las Vegas style. Ideas
for paintings almost always come in an instant of vision and the only decision
for this painting that took any time was deciding which would be the
appropriate cars."

Jay Koka: "While the basic concept for this painting came from the "Altered Landscapes No1" "Z" painting I completed late last year, the idea didn't really materialize until I saw the front of Harrah's Hotel and Casino. This fascade stopped me dead in my tracks. I can safely save that no building has ever affected me the way this one did. It's not really beautiful in a traditional sense, it is simply 'over the top'. It's outrageous and achieves a certain attractiveness in that outrageousness."

Jay Koka: "Las
Vegas continues to provide a stream of inspiration for new work. The Venetian
Casino and Hotel presents an "Americanized" interpretation of Venice. The
steady stream of traffic on the incredibly busy Las Vegas Boulevard in front
gave me an opportunity to depict an interesting and equally "Americanized"
group of cars."
