Jay Koka: “For my 25th anniversary of the being a full time professional artist, I resolved to do two things... first, I wanted to move to a warmer and broader color palette, and second, I want to move more towards the impressionist, looser painting style that I have always enjoyed.

In the spirit of "The Drift" and "The Drift No2", Sunday Drive captures the essence of the thrill of driving a fast, good handling car.”

"On The Corniche" is the most extreme example of this new style and captures the feel of the shore on a steamy day. ”

Non Entrare (Do Not Enter) is one of these new series of paintings that very much captures what I had in mind. The overall color and mood is just right as the Ferrari 250GTO blips the brakes on realising it is a one way street”

Jay Koka: “I have done many, many event posters over the years and when you do them, you are always sort of looking over your shoulder to see what was done before. The great thing about doing an inaugaral event poster is that nothing has come before so it is a blank slate... although there are some expectations like showing the prime feature of the venue as well as the cars selected by the event producers... but these are not quite as limiting as facing what "went before".

The painting features the St John s main entrance with a 1929 Duesenberg Dual Cowl Phaeton and a 1938 Talbot Lago Teardrop Coupe, winners of the 2010 Best of Show American and European classes.

It is common practice for me to do a number of drawings/studies before working on a poster. The St. Johns Concours 2011 was no exception, I completed 4 preliminary ink drawings for consideration by the organizers. Number 4, this one, was not selected for the poster and I set it aside for quite a while, in fact, I did not

look at it again until after I completed the poster painting some 4 months later. By this point I had embarked on my experiments with palette and style so this painting... No4... is as different from the final poster painting as two paintings can be. ”

Jay Koka: “I don't always publicize commissioned art because it is often of interest only to the owner. Although GTO s/n3223 is very well known... it won at the 2011 Pebble Beach GTO 50th anniversary reunion... the car owner is not. And somewhat unusually, the painting was commissioned anonymously through intermediaries. The car has had an interesting career being owned at one point by the Luigi Chinnetti North America Racing Team followed by a number of private owners that campaigned the car through a series of North American races including Sebring and Daytona by Larry Perkins.

This was a great project to work on... the owner had few expectations beyond having the car near the famous Bixby Bridge on Hwy 1 near Big Sur and a preferred angle. I am especially pleased that the owner has agreed to allow the studio to publish an edition of signed and numbered full size canvas reproductions.” A 48x30” major new work from Jay Koka executed as a private commission.

Jay Koka has been commissioned to create the art for the 49th running of the Rolex 24 At Daytona on Jan. 29-30, North America most prestigious sports car race and the kick-off event to the international motorsports calendar.

The acrylic on canvas original painting features the 150ft Ferris Wheel... an icon of the 24... reputed to be the largest ferris wheel east of the Mississippi...along with the first and second place overall finishers of the 2010 race.

The No. 9 Action Express Racing Porsche Riley with drivers Joao Barbosa, Terry Borcheller, Ryan Dalziel and Mike Rockenfeller captured the 2010 Rolex 24 edging the No. 01 Chip Ganassi Racing entry. The 755 laps turned by Action Express Racing on the 3.56 mile road course was the second most in the Rolex 24 and the margin of victory... 52.303 seconds... was the third closest finish in event history.

The Rolex 24 At Daytona attracts a star-studded driver lineup from all racing disciplines around the world. Drivers who competed in the 2010 edition of the Rolex 24 included NASCAR stars Jimmie Johnson and Juan Pablo Montoya, IndyCar stars Dario Franchitti and Scott Dixon and sports car veterans Max Angelelli, Scott Pruett, David Donohue, Darren Law, Jon Fogarty and Alex Gurney.
